They were identified as William Parente, 59, Betty Parente, 58, Stephanie Parente, 19, and Catherine Parente, 11, of Garden City, N.Y. Investigators are not releasing the causes or manner of deaths until after the completion of autopsies. "The direction of this investigation is that of a murder-suicide at this point," said police Cpl. Mike Hill. Stephanie Parente was a student at Loyola College. William Parente was a tax attorney in Manhattan. Authorities said the victims were related, although they did not say how. Next-door neighbor Mary Opulente Krener said in a phone interview that William and Betty Parente were a couple and Stephanie and Catherine were their daughters.
